Individual Training

improv classes. improvised learning. public speaking.
non-verbal communication. reading the room. mastering listening.

Although the study and practice of improvisation goes by many names, there are only two, main categories to the art: “End-product Improvising” & “Process Improvisation”.

End-product improvising is designed for actors and performers. The popular TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?!?” is a good example of this kind of improv. It’s super fun and amazingly funny, but… only a small number of people actually do this kind of improv because most people aren’t performers.

Process Improvisation, by contrast, is for everyone. It’s a practice that invites anyone from ANY background to learn and then use the valuable skills of play, communication, and collaboration with one another. Process improvising is a meditative, joyous, and educational process that - science tells us - relieves stress, improves brain functioning, improves relationships, and boosts creativity. No wonder it’s so incredibly popular, addictive, and therapeutic.

There are many reasons why taking an improv class can benefit you:

  • If you’re a director level employee, learning process improv can help you lead more joyous meetings or all-hands.

  • If you’re a manager, the skills of process improv will make you a far better communicator and collaborator.

  • If you’re a public speaker, learning process improv will help transform your presentations and on-stage experiences into memorable and powerful experiences.

  • If you’re a teacher, the process improv exercises that you’ll learn with us can help focus, delight, and captivate your students as they learn your subject matter. We know that because we teach educators how to leverage the power of improv into their curricula.

We teach in-person improv classes in Portland, Oregon to people from ALL walks of life. While actors and performers are also most welcome, most of our students are just every-day people with no background in acting, performing, or presenting. You’ll be right at home in our small studio in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. All it takes to learn is a willingness to have fun and jump into the unknown.
